Holyrood Park Distillery, Edinburgh

The Holyrood Distillery brings single malt whisky distilling back to Edinburgh after 90 years.

Iceni secured planning permission and listed building consent for The Holyrood Distillery – a working distillery and visitor experience in a former B Listed building. The clients and the Iceni led team worked closely with local residents and businesses to present a proposal that will benefit the local community as well as Edinburgh as a whole.

The proposal delivers a new long-term use for the category B listed former Engine Shed building in the heart of Edinburgh.

With its history dating back to the 1830s, the ambition is to be a world-class distillery and tourist destination of which Edinburgh can be proud.

The distillery opened its doors to the public in Summer 2019 and visitors are able to enjoy a range of spirits as part of the tour experience and the distillery can be hired for a range of events. Iceni (Planning) led the overall planning strategy and the submission of applications for Planning and Listed Building consent that were granted consent in August 2016.

Since 2016, Iceni have been advising in relation to variations to the planning permission and have obtained a new Listed Building Consent and Advertisement Consent for the proposals to reflect the technical requirements of the distilling process.
