Iceni undertook a visioning exercise focussed on strategic growth in the two local settlement areas of Newbury and Thatcham. The visioning exercise ensures policies are set within a vision that looked ahead 30 + years – beyond the Local Plan timeline.
A 2050 Vision for West Berkshire
Whilst a 30-year timeframe might seem distant, creating healthy and happy communities, meeting net zero targets, delivering infrastructure and supporting sustainable travel habits require us to collectively adopt a long-term view.
The work looked at strategic objectives and development principles, looking at the key issues arising from the climate emergency, importance of green space, housing needs, neighbourhoods and social infrastructure.
Over 2,500 people responded during consultation.
