On 19th October 2021, the Prime Minister published the Net Zero Strategy: Build Back Greener policy paper, detailing policies and proposals to decarbonise all sectors of the UK economy in order to meet the 2050 zero carbon target.

With the aim of establishing a net zero carbon economy, the policies and proposals will apply to all sectors, including new development of all types. It is intended that a move to renewable and low-carbon technologies to fully decarbonise the UK power system by 2035, coupled with the enforcement of the Future Homes Standard and a push for the employment of heat pumps, will aid in ending the UK’s reliance on fossil fuels. Government funding is to be invested in developing new technologies and the upgrading of existing transport infrastructure in a drive to deliver the changes needed for the UK to meet its climate change ambitions.

In anticipation of the upcoming changes, we have produced a Briefing Note that summarises the main policies and proposals set out within the Net Zero Strategy, and how new development can become future-ready by aligning with the Strategy to “Build Back Greener”.
