Iceni Futures stands at the forefront of the planning industry by seeking to understand and predict how places will function in the future, the challenges they may face, and what technological solutions are available to improve the quality of decision making, planning consultancy advice and ultimately placemaking

.

We have all heard the buzzwords. PropTech, Smart Cities, PlanTech…the list could go on. Throughout 2019 there was a wave of excitement surrounding all of these areas which sought to capture the ideas of a planning and development industry seeking diversification. But are there opportunities and potential for real change to be found amongst the chatter?

Whether it is PropTech, PlanTech or Smart Cities, all of these growing industries share one thing in common – the future. That is why, at Iceni, we have decided to shake off the buzzwords and focus on what really matters; the future of our planning and development industry. Rather than worry about what type of innovation or tech an idea relates to, we decided to start our own movement – Iceni Futures.

Iceni Futures isn’t another buzzword, it’s a movement of Iceni professionals looking to discover what the future of our industry will look like. Iceni Futures stands at the forefront of the planning industry by seeking to understand and predict how places will function in the future, the challenges they may face, and what technological solutions are available to improve the quality of decision making, planning consultancy advice and ultimately placemaking.

To give you a taste of what we can do, in 2019 alone we facilitated events and conversations between some of the most innovative people in the planning and development industry. This included hosting the London Property Alliance NextGen ‘Future of Planning Event’ and the Women in PropTech event where big names from the NHS, the Better Buildings Partnership and Lendlease debated the role of innovation in sustainability.

Our very own Charlotte Orrell was invited to Nordregio in Stockholm (an international research centre for regional development and planning) to present on the digitisation of planning – where unsurprisingly we discovered that the English planning system still has a long way to go.

As well as getting out there to learn of and listen to new ideas, Iceni Futures also likes to explore some of our own ideas for the future of placemaking, including thoughts on vertical farming, 5G and data transparency. All this and more can be found on the Iceni Futures Blog.

As Iceni Futures grows, we wanted to take the opportunity to introduce ourselves and to answer any questions you may have. As a company, we are taking a leading role in furthering the debate about how planning and development can innovate as well as supporting clients to achieve the potential of their ideas. So, if you have a new technological idea that needs a planning solution, or a new development idea that needs an innovative solution, we are here to help.
