On 19th January 2021 the government published their response to the consultation on their plans for the Future Homes Standard 2025, and the proposed changes to Part L of the Building Regulations that are to be published in December 2021.

With the aim of reducing the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of new homes in line with the UK’s 2050 target of net zero CO2 emissions, the proposed changes are set to impact on new build residential schemes, through increased levels of building energy efficiency being specified. Guidance on overheating in new dwellings is also to be introduced, requiring more detailed overheating modelling to be undertaken for many proposals. In anticipation of the upcoming changes, we have produced a Briefing Note that outlines the vision of the Future Homes Standard, and the changes that are to come into force as part of the 2021 update to Part L of the Building Regulations.
